Matilda Jr. Musical Theater Camp Kicks Off with Energy and Excitement

Encore’s Matilda Jr. Musical Theater Camp gives young artists ages 8-11 their first taste of theater with support from experienced youth leaders and professional staff.

We love doing these camps! They are a chance for younger artists who are unsure, who have never been on stage, or are new to performing to dip their toe in the water, so to speak, and see if this is something they like. And for the most part, they seem to really like it!

Theater provides a great opportunity for young artists to come out of their shell and find a community of supportive friends and mentors. That’s exactly what we’re creating this week with our Matilda Jr. Musical Theater Camp.

This camp is off to a great start. We have an amazing team of youth leaders leading the camp alongside our wonderful director, Kelby Tyrrell. These leaders showed up prepared after having spent weeks planning and strategizing on how their rehearsals and production will go.

Most of all, they came ready to have fun and to give these new young artists a great experience.

Over the next week, our young artists will learn songs, choreography, and scenes from Matilda Jr., building confidence and skills along the way. The energy in the rehearsal room has been electric, with laughter, learning, and plenty of encouragement filling every session.

We can’t wait to see what this talented group creates together. Their showcase performance on April 30 at 7:00 PM at the Electric Theater will be a celebration of hard work, new friendships, and the magic that happens when young artists take the stage for the first time.
