A Special Afternoon: Sensory-Friendly Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Today at 4:00 PM, Encore Performing Arts welcomed our community to a very special performance of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers—our dedicated sensory-friendly show. This marks Encore’s ninth sensory performance, and we are incredibly proud and grateful to continue offering these opportunities to individuals and families with sensory needs. Providing theater in a safe, welcoming environment is central to our mission: to make the arts accessible to everyone.

Setting the Stage

As guests arrived, our director, Kelby, stepped onto the stage to guide the audience through what they were about to see. Kelby introduced the story, the characters, and our cast of young artists, setting the tone for an experience that was both engaging and comfortable. Because Seven Brides for Seven Brothers includes plenty of boisterous fight scenes, Kelby also demonstrated how our actors safely staged the roughhousing—showing how no real contact is made while still creating the energy and excitement of a full fight.

A Safe Space for Connection

One of the true highlights of every sensory-friendly performance is the chance for our cast and staff to connect personally with our guests. Today was no exception. From warm greetings in the lobby to conversations after the show, these moments of community and friendship are what make these performances so meaningful.

Looking Ahead

We are humbled by the support and enthusiasm for our sensory program. Each performance reaffirms why we do this work: so that everyone—no matter their needs—can experience the magic of live theater. We look forward to many more sensory-friendly performances in the seasons ahead and to deepening our impact on the community we love.

At Encore, we believe theater should belong to everyone. Today was a shining example of what happens when that belief comes to life.
