Course Description:
This fast-paced dance for musical theatre class will strengthen students' technique while developing the dancers' language through the study of some of history’s greatest musical theatre choreographers. This class has two focuses: Students will be exposed to fresh choreography weekly in a “pick-it-up-quick” style of class, preparing young artists for future dance calls and rehearsals by developing comfort and familiarity with new choreography. Second, we will take a deep dive into the techniques and works of choreographers such as Bob Fosse, Agnes DeMille, Jerome Robbins, and Gillian Lynne. Through examination of these artists, the styles they pioneered, and their contributions to musical theatre history, young artists will further their knowledge of their craft, develop a personal sense of movement style, and gain experience working as a dance ensemble.
