Why Christmas Carol?

Southern Utah has rich opportunities in the Arts but is lacking in two very big ways.

1. Education in theater arts, especially theater and acting training for young performers. AND…
2. An annual theatrical tradition that’s centered around the holiday season.

We believe that both of these are integral to any community. It’s vital to have an opportunity to come together as a community and reflect on the spirit of the holidays; families, charity, and the hope of transformation.
What better place to start than Charles Dickens’ Classic, A Christmas Carol?

We believe there is a real need for education in theater arts here in St. George and we desire to continue to  build a program that will provide quality education in theater for young artists.

Adam, a professional children’s book illustrator and  graphic designer and co founder of Encore has always wanted to create a musical, but  didn’t know where to start. So he reached out to Rhett Guter and asked, what if we write a musical version of A Christmas Carol for Southern Utah, bring in a ringer to play Scrooge, a handful of professional theater Artists as the creative team, and the rest of the cast will be played by young performers.

The idea is that the young performers  go through a full rehearsal process and performance watching and working directly with theater professionals.

With Encore as the producing entity, our goal is to create a professional caliber show, and an immense learning opportunity for younger members of the cast. Our hope is to make this a tradition that continues to serve the Southern Utah community and become a financial foundation for Encores’ ongoing educational endeavors.

It’s been about six months since we dreamed this up. We  just wrapped up our 2nd Workshop of the show with original lyrics and songs by Adam Record. We were  able to adapt the book for the stage in an original script.  We presented this at the Electric Theatre, with Adam Chenney as Marely and Ghost of Christmas Present, an ensemble of incredibly talented kids and Corbin Allred Playing Scrooge. The response has been incredible.

And now we mount the full production! And that’s where you come in! The script, score, actors, and creative team are all in place, now we need your help to bring Southern Utah's newest holiday tradition to the Electric Theater.

There are a few ways you can help!

  1. Share this video with your people! On social media, email it, take it to work. Show as many people as possible!

  2.  Go to Encorepa.org and donate. No donation is too small! Encore is a 501c3 so it’s completely tax deductible.

  3. Become an official sponsor of Christmas Carol. If you're interested in making a larger gift, email us at hello@encorepa.org and lets find a time to talk about how to take this incredible show and educational program to life.

We thank you for being part of this journey! And hope to see you at the Electric theater December 1 to the 16th 2022.
