Launch Day: Matilda Jr. Begins

There is something electric about the first day of a new production — and for Matilda Jr., that energy was felt the moment our cast and their families walked through the doors.

We kicked things off with what we call Launch Day — a tradition we look forward to with every new show. It brings together our cast and their parents for a combined meeting where we share the vision for the production, introduce the creative team, and talk through what the journey ahead will look like. It is part information session, part celebration, and entirely a chance to welcome our newest community of artists and families.

We shared early designs and concepts for the show, gave each member of the creative team a chance to speak to their vision, and made sure there was plenty of food and drink to go around. Because that is what Launch Day is really about — coming together, getting to know one another, and marking the beginning of something special.

The moment the meeting wrapped, we moved straight into our first rehearsal. A table read. Music. The story coming to life for the first time in the room.

Leading this production is a team we are incredibly proud of. Bridget Arias Cunningham directs, with Mattea Denney as Music Director, Paris Sullivan as Choreographer, and Shannon Martin as Stage Manager. Rounding out the creative team are Maika Naivalu as Associate Director, Skylar Allred as Associate Choreographer, and Hali Hoopes as Associate Music Director. Keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes is Rehearsal Coordinator Brittney Nelson, supported by assistants Libby Childress and Anna Schroath — along with many more on our support team who are committed to making sure every young artist in this cast has the best experience possible.

We are already so proud of this cast. The talent in the room is undeniable, and the energy they bring to this story is something special. This is going to be an incredible journey — and we are just getting started.
