More than a hundred years of live storytelling

Built in 1911 with three-foot-thick adobe walls, the Electric Theater opened as southern Utah's first motion picture house. It was also the first air-conditioned building in St. George — a detail that turned a hot afternoon into a destination and helped invent the local idea of a summer blockbuster.

The venue cycled through owners and identities over the next century, including a stretch in the 1930s as the Gaiety, a 2003 revival as a live music room, and a 2013 acquisition by the City of St. George that anchored a new downtown arts district. A multi-million-dollar restoration brought it back online in 2015, restoring the historic facade while modernizing the stage and the back-of-house.

Encore Performing Arts has called it home since 2021. Today the Electric Theater hosts our productions, classes, rehearsals, and community events — alongside other concerts, comedy nights, and gatherings the city programs throughout the year.
