Auditions at Encore

Every season we cast young performers in fully staged musicals at the historic Electric Theater. No experience required — just bring your voice and your nerve.

Auditioning here is less of a test and more of an invitation — a room full of people who genuinely want to see you do well.

You'll sing a little, learn a short dance, and maybe read a few lines. Our directors and choreographers coach as they go, so even if it's your very first audition, you won't be left guessing. Nerves are part of it — every performer on our stage felt them too.

We cast first-timers in every production. What we're looking for isn't polish; it's energy, effort, and the willingness to try something in front of other people. Bring that, and you're already most of the way there.

The process

How an Encore audition works

Four steps, start to finish — usually wrapped up in a single visit plus callbacks.

1

Sign up & pick a time

Register online for the show you want and choose an audition slot that fits your schedule.

2

Sing for us

Prepare a short song, about 30 to 60 seconds. Not sure what to bring? We'll point you in the right direction.

3

Learn a dance

A choreographer teaches a short combination on the spot. No dance background needed — just follow along.

4

Callbacks & casting

Some performers are asked to sing or read again. Then the cast list goes up and rehearsals begin.

Come prepared

What to bring

Keep it simple. Three things and a good attitude.

A song you love

Around a minute, in a key that's comfortable for you. Sheet music or a backing track helps, but isn't required.

Clothes you can move in

Something comfortable for the dance portion, plus shoes you can actually dance in.

Just yourself

Come as you are. We're looking for energy and effort, not perfection — and definitely not a polished resume.

FAQ

Audition questions

Do I need experience to audition?
No. Encore casts first-time performers in every production, and auditions are designed to be welcoming for all experience levels.
Is there a fee to audition?
There is no fee to audition. A participation fee applies once a performer is cast, and need-based scholarships are available — see our scholarship page.
What should my Young Artist prepare?
A short song of about one minute in their range, and clothes they can move in for the dance portion. We will help if you are not sure what to sing.
Do we audition for a specific role?
You audition for the production and the director casts roles. You can note a role you are interested in, but every performer is considered for the best fit.
When and where are auditions held?
Auditions are held at the Electric Theater in downtown St. George ahead of each production. Dates are listed on each show page and announced by email.
How do I sign up?
Each show page has a registration link with available time slots. If you have questions, call Encore at (435) 414-0049.
