FROM MYTH TO STAGE, AN EXPLORATION OF GREEK TRAGEDY
Through this workshop, students will explore different themes and styles of Greek Tragic Theatre as it relates to the design and structure of Hadestown. Together we will analyze various songs and scenes from the musical and discover how the words on the page relate to the characters and connect to the foundation of Greek Theater. Through hands-on exercises students will have the opportunity to work as a chorus to create stage pictures and stories, build characters through intentional movement, and explore how vocal performance, texture, and quality informs character.
These exercises and discussions will prepare students to look out for key performance techniques as we watch Hadestown the following Saturday. Being able to identify specific Greek Tragic Theatre influence and how these cathartic elements have shifted for the modern audience.
