Illuminating California: Aspire’s Unforgettable Disneyland Performance Trip

This spring, Aspire Performing Company’s Illuminate group took the stage—and the road—for an unforgettable trip to California filled with connection, music, mentorship, and Disney magic.

Our journey began with two buses filled with excited young performers, supportive chaperones, and a sense of adventure. Along the way, we played games, shared snacks, and bonded as a team. Upon arriving in Anaheim, our first evening was spent exploring Downtown Disney with Kelby, our fearless director, and soaking up the energy of the park.

One of the most meaningful highlights of the trip came before we ever stepped foot on stage. We had the incredible opportunity to attend the national touring production of Annie at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood—where our very own Artistic Director, Rhett Guter, is starring as Rooster. Watching Rhett perform on such a prestigious stage was nothing short of inspiring for our students. Afterward, we were privileged to participate in a talk-back with many members of the Annie cast. The generous cast gave their time and insights in a thoughtful Q&A session that left our students edified, motivated, and full of new creative energy.

Saturday was our big day in Disney California Adventure. After a fun-filled morning in the park, we prepared for our 2:00 PM performance. Our young artists delivered a vibrant, heartfelt show—and we were honored to be told by Disney team members that it was one of the best youth performances they had seen in the park. We are so proud of this talented group and their commitment to excellence.

The following days brought even more bonding and fun, including a day at Disneyland and a safe trip home with memories that will last a lifetime.

But this trip wasn’t just about the shows or the rides. It was about unity. At Encore and Aspire, we know that the strength of any performance is rooted in the strength of the group behind it. When our artists connect socially and emotionally, they thrive artistically. This trip was designed to build that foundation—and it worked. We don’t just create performers; we create communities. We teach stage skills that go far beyond the stage.

We’re deeply grateful to the volunteers, families, and staff who made this trip possible—and to Kelby, whose leadership and mentorship continue to elevate everything Aspire stands for.

If your child is looking to grow as a performer and a person, Aspire is ready to welcome them. The next adventure is just around the corner.
